PH candidate undaunted by Machap challenge against Johor MB

Nur Hafiz Roslan, the Pakatan Harapan candidate for Machap, remains unfazed by facing Johor Menteri Besar Onn Hafiz Ghazi, citing political history as proof no seat is unbeatable.

KLUANG: Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate for the Machap state seat, Nur Hafiz Roslan, says he is unfazed by the prospect of facing the incumbent, Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, in the upcoming state election.

Drawing on his 18 years of experience in the legal field, Nur Hafiz said the constituency’s reputation as a Barisan Nasional (BN) stronghold would not deter him from offering the best service and solutions for the people of Machap.

He pointed out that political history has shown that no seat is unbeatable.

“History proves that nothing is impossible in politics. Former Johor Menteri Besars such as Tan Sri Abdul Ghani Othman and Datuk Seri Khaled Nordin have also experienced defeat.

“Perhaps after this, Nur Hafiz will be the one to defeat Datuk Onn Hafiz. Regardless, we will continue presenting and offering the best to the voters,” he said in an interview with Bernama at the PH Main Operations Room for N26 Machap constituency in Simpang Renggam today.

Nur Hafiz also expressed confidence in the preparedness of the PH election machinery, describing it as organised, stable and free from internal conflict since the nomination stage.

Commenting on the current political climate, he stressed his commitment to rejecting politics driven by perception, public shaming and the exploitation of 3R sentiments (race, religion and royalty), which he described as outdated and unsuitable for the current era.

“How long do we want to continue politics based on fear among Malays, Chinese and Indians? The focus I want to bring is more mature politics that prioritises policies and solutions to the people’s daily concerns,” he said.

Nur Hafiz said he hopes to serve as an effective bridge between the state and federal governments to ensure that the concerns of Machap constituents are represented fairly, regardless of background.

The Machap contest will see a straight fight between Nur Hafiz and BN candidate Onn Hafiz. The Johor state election will be held on July 11, with early voting scheduled for July 7.
