Penang police say newborn abandoned in Sungai Dua was born elsewhere, seek mother’s whereabouts, baby now with Social Welfare Department
BUTTERWORTH: Police believe a newborn baby girl abandoned in front of a toilet at a village house in Sungai Dua was born at another location.
Penang police chief Datuk Azizee Ismail said investigations and scene inspection found no evidence suggesting the birth occurred in the toilet or surrounding area.
“We believe the infant was born elsewhere before being abandoned at the scene,” he said when contacted today.
Azizee stated that investigations are ongoing, including efforts to locate the baby’s mother.
He urged anyone with relevant information to come forward and assist police.
Media previously reported that a member of the public discovered the infant still attached to the umbilical cord.
The baby was taken to Seberang Jaya Hospital for medical attention.
Hospital staff confirmed the newborn was in normal and healthy condition.
The infant has since been handed over to the Social Welfare Department for care. – Bernama
