Syed Saddiq and Bella Astillah marry at Merdeka 118; receptions follow in KL, Muar and Kota Kinabalu
KUALA LUMPUR: Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, 34, and singer-actress Bella Astillah, 32, are officially husband and wife after tying the knot this morning at Level 118 of Menara Merdeka Maybank.
Former minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Seri Dr Zulkifli Mohamad Al-Bakri officiated at the solemnisation ceremony at about 10.40am.
Syed Saddiq completed the akad nikah with a single recitation, formalising the couple’s marriage. They became engaged on March 28, and he presented Bella with RM500 as the mas kahwin.
About 250 guests attended the ceremony, including family members, dignitaries and fellow entertainers.
The couple wore white outfits in keeping with the Arabic-Islamic theme requested by their families.
In accordance with tradition, the groom’s family presented seven gift trays, while the bride’s family returned nine.
Syed Saddiq’s gifts included savings for Bella and a scholarship package for a master’s degree, while Bella’s trays contained a ring, books and gold.
The newlyweds were also surprised with a sponsored Umrah package.
Fans have nicknamed the couple “BASS”. They will hold a wedding reception at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) on Oct 18.
A public Kenduri Rakyat will follow in Muar, Johor, on Oct 25, before another celebration in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, on Oct 31.
