Indonesia’s Social Affairs Ministry starts a work-from-home simulation, planning a one-day weekly trial as part of a government-wide flexible work initiative.
JAKARTA: Indonesia’s Social Affairs Ministry has initiated a simulation for a work-from-home arrangement for its civil servants.
The plan includes trialling remote work for one designated day each week.
Social Affairs Minister Saifullah Yusuf stated the simulations follow a directive from President Prabowo Subianto to explore flexible working systems across government institutions.
“We are currently conducting simulations, but of course we will wait for the provisions that will later be formulated by the Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform Ministry in accordance with the President’s directive,” he said.
He added that the ministry would adjust its plans based on the final regulations.
Yusuf assured that implementing a flexible system would not disrupt direct public services, particularly those involving social assistance access.
Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian confirmed the WFH proposal is expected to be applied one day weekly.
He noted the final decision rests with the president’s directive.
Discussions among relevant ministers have indicated a preference for designating the same specific day for WFH implementation across ministries.
Karnavian declined to provide further details pending an official announcement.
The consideration for a WFH arrangement aims to improve government efficiency.
This move comes amid rising global fuel prices influenced by the ongoing conflict in West Asia.
