LIVERPOOL: A new left-wing political party co-founded by veteran British socialist Jeremy Corbyn will be led by its members rather than an individual leader.
The decision followed a narrow vote at Your Party’s founding conference, with 51.6% opting for collective leadership through a member committee.
Party co-founder Zarah Sultana welcomed the outcome, stating she had “fought for maximum member democracy since day one.”
She described members choosing collective leadership as “truly exciting.”
In a separate vote, the conference agreed to permit members of other parties to join where they aligned with Your Party’s values.
This decision followed controversy over expulsions of members who also belonged to the far-left Socialist Workers Party.
Sultana boycotted Saturday’s conference over those expulsions, creating fresh turmoil for the fledgling party.
Corbyn, 76, and Sultana, 32, both former Labour MPs, have frequently clashed since announcing the party in July.
Two of the four independent MPs who initially joined have since quit amid ongoing divisions.
The party faces significant challenges, with polls showing the Green Party under younger leader Zack Polanski attracting most disaffected left-wing voters.
