Denmark rebukes Trump aide’s wife over US-flag Greenland image

Denmark’s ambassador demands respect for its territorial integrity after the wife of Trump’s top aide posted a US-flag image of Greenland with the caption ‘SOON’.

COPENHAGEN: Denmark has expressed its displeasure after the wife of President Donald Trump’s most influential aide posted a social media picture of Greenland painted in the colours of the US flag.

Katie Miller, wife of Trump’s deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller, posted the altered image on her X feed late Saturday with the single-word caption “SOON”.

Denmark’s ambassador to the US, Jesper Moeller Soerensen, responded on Sunday by stating “we expect full respect for the territorial integrity” of Denmark above a link to Miller’s image.

Trump has repeatedly stated his desire for Greenland to become part of the United States.

His government’s moves toward that goal, including appointing an envoy to the Danish territory, have angered both Copenhagen and the European Union.

Stephen Miller is widely seen as the architect of much of Trump’s policies.

He guides the president on hardline immigration and domestic agenda items.

The post followed Trump’s military operation against Venezuela on Saturday, which rattled US European allies.

Venezuelan president Nicolas Maduro was captured and is now held by US authorities in New York.

Trump claims annexing Greenland would serve US national security interests due to its strategic Arctic location.

The territory is also rich in critical minerals used in high-tech sectors.

Ambassador Soerensen gave a “friendly reminder” that Denmark, a NATO member, has “significantly boosted its Arctic security efforts” and worked with the US.

“We are close allies and should continue to work together as such,” he wrote.

Katie Miller served as deputy press secretary at the Department of Homeland Security during Trump’s first term.

She later worked as communications director and press secretary for then vice president Mike Pence.
