Explosion in Mykolaiv injures seven Ukrainian police officers

A blast in Mykolaiv wounded seven Ukrainian police officers, marking the second attack on police in three days as officials warn of a deliberate campaign.

MYKOLAIV: An explosion in the southern Ukrainian city of Mykolaiv injured seven police officers on Monday. Two of the officers were seriously wounded, according to the head of the national police.

Ivan Vyhivskyi said the officers had parked their cars in anticipation of a shift change when the blast occurred. This incident follows an explosion in Lviv on Saturday that killed a female police officer and injured 24 people.

“The day before yesterday, a terrorist attack against police officers took place in Lviv,” Vyhivskyi wrote on Facebook. “This is not a coincidence. The enemy is deliberately trying to kill Ukrainian police officers who defend people and the state every day.”

Later on Monday, police in the southeastern city of Dnipro reported an explosion at a city police station. The blast smashed windows and damaged furnishings inside the building.

No injuries were reported from the Dnipro incident. Police made no immediate comment on what might have caused that explosion.
