RMT union agrees to a three-year pay deal for London Underground workers, ending strike action with 3.4% first-year increase and RPI-linked rises.
LONDON: The RMT trade union has secured a three-year pay agreement for London Underground workers following September’s strike action.
The deal provides a 3.4% pay increase in the first year, followed by Retail Prices Index-linked rises over the next two years.
Guaranteed minimum increases will apply if inflation drops below certain levels.
The union also won “fatigue-friendly” shift patterns and additional talks on staff travel arrangements.

Workers will receive a guaranteed £400 payment for working on Boxing Day, December 26.
September’s five-day strike brought the Tube network to a standstill, causing major disruption for millions of daily commuters.
The new agreement is expected to prevent further industrial action on the underground system.
Transport for London welcomed the RMT’s decision to accept the pay offer in a statement cited by British media.
“This multi-year offer is fair, affordable and provides certainty for our colleagues over pay for several years,” a TfL spokesperson said.
The transport authority confirmed it is engaging with all unions on the same offer.
TfL stated there were no proposed changes to employees’ working hours as part of the agreement. – Reuters
