Paris police arrest two more over foiled bank bomb plot

French police detain two more suspects in a foiled bomb attack outside a US bank in Paris, with the interior minister citing the Middle East war as a possible motive.

PARIS: French police have arrested two more people over an apparent attempt to detonate a homemade device outside the Paris headquarters of Bank of America, prosecutors confirmed.

The arrests on Saturday night bring the total number of suspects in custody to four, following the initial detention of a minor in the early hours of the same day.

Interior Minister Laurent Nunez said on Saturday that the war in the Middle East might have motivated the foiled attack.

The first suspect, a minor, was detained just after he placed a device containing five litres of a liquid believed to be fuel and an ignition system outside the bank, according to a source close to the investigation.

A second person accompanying the minor, who appeared to be taking photos and videos with a mobile phone, fled when police arrived but was later apprehended.

According to a police source, the first suspect said he had been recruited through the Snapchat app to carry out a bombing in exchange for 600 euros.
