Peru earthquake injures at least 25, 12 hospitalised

A 6.2 magnitude earthquake in Peru has injured at least 25 people, with 12 hospitalised, according to the country’s health ministry.

MOSCOW: At least 25 people were injured following a 6.2 magnitude earthquake in Peru.

The country’s Ministry of Health confirmed the casualties on Monday, stating 12 of the injured have been hospitalised.

Thirteen others were discharged after receiving medical care, the ministry said in a post on social media platform X.

The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre reported the earthquake struck Peru on Sunday.

Peru is situated in a highly seismically active zone along the Pacific Ring of Fire.

This geological setting, where the Nazca Plate subducts beneath the South American Plate, makes such events relatively common and often leads to significant damage and casualties.
