The Kremlin confirms Putin received an invitation to join Trump’s ‘Board of Peace’ aimed at global conflict resolution and Gaza reconstruction
MOSCOW: Russian President Vladimir Putin has been invited to join US President Donald Trump’s “Board of Peace”.
The Kremlin confirmed the invitation on Monday, stating the board is aimed at resolving conflicts globally and overseeing governance and reconstruction in Gaza.
Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told journalists that Russia was seeking to “clarify all the nuances” of the offer with Washington.
He did not specify if Putin was inclined to join the initiative, which is chaired by Trump himself.
The White House has reached out to various global figures to sit on the board.
Putin has previously praised Trump’s efforts to resolve long-standing international crises.
“He’s really doing a lot to resolve these complex crises, which have lasted for years, even decades,” Putin said last October.
Referring to the Middle East, he added that success would be “a historic event”.
The invitation comes amid strained relations between Moscow and Israel following Russia’s assault on Ukraine and the war in Gaza.
Moscow has moved away from Israel, boosting ties with its foes like Iran and seeking closer relationships with Gulf states.
The Kremlin has repeatedly criticised Israel’s military response in Gaza and called for restraint.
Putin described the situation there as a “humanitarian catastrophe in the full sense of the word” during a meeting with Palestinian leader Mahmud Abbas last May.
He added that Russia, as a friend of the Palestinian people, is trying to provide regular assistance.
