President Donald Trump says the US is “locked and loaded” to rescue peaceful protesters if Iran kills them, following deadly clashes.
WASHINGTON: President Donald Trump has warned the United States will intervene if Iran kills peaceful protesters.
The warning follows deadly clashes between security forces and demonstrators in several Iranian cities.
“if Iran shots and violently kills peaceful protesters, which is their custom, the United States of America will come to their rescue,” Trump said on his Truth Social platform.
The Republican leader added that America is “locked and loaded and ready to go.”
Protests over high prices and economic stagnation began with shopkeepers striking in Tehran.
The unrest has since spread, with six reported killed in recent clashes.
Iran’s Fars news agency reported two deaths in Lordegan and three in Azna from clashes with security forces.
State television also reported a member of Iran’s security forces was killed in the western city of Kouhdasht.
The current demonstrations are smaller than the major 2022 protests triggered by Mahsa Amini’s death in custody.
That earlier wave of anger left several hundred people dead, including dozens of security force members.
