Ukraine’s president orders military response as Russia intensifies strikes on railway infrastructure, a vital logistics network, killing civilians.
KYIV: President Volodymyr Zelensky has ordered Ukrainian military leaders to respond to intensified Russian attacks targeting the country’s railway infrastructure.
He stated that the Russian army remains focused on terror against Ukrainian logistics, primarily railway facilities.
His comments follow a Russian strike last week that killed five people in a railway car in the eastern Kharkiv region.
Zelensky cited recent strikes in the Dnipro and Zaporizhzhia regions specifically targeting railway facilities.
Ukraine has kept its nationwide rail network running despite almost four years of war.
Russian forces have prioritised capturing key train hubs like Kupiansk and Pokrovsk in eastern Ukraine.
State railway operator Ukrzaliznytsia warned that several routes in eastern Ukraine are now “high risk”.
It urged passengers to use buses instead for their safety.
In the Sumy region, some rail services will monitor for drone threats and stop near bomb shelters if needed.
