Zelensky welcomes new US peace plan principles for Ukraine war

Ukraine’s Zelensky says new US draft could lead to deeper agreements, calls for Trump’s personal engagement on remaining sensitive points.

KYIV: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has welcomed the “principles” of a revised US plan to end the war with Russia.

Zelensky stated these principles could be expanded into “deeper agreements” during his daily address on Tuesday.

He emphasized that “much depends on America, because Russia pays the greatest attention to American strength.”

The Ukrainian leader expressed hope for further cooperation with the American side and President Donald Trump.

An earlier US proposal to end nearly four years of Russian invasion had been criticized as too favorable to Moscow.

The updated version has not yet been made public.

Zelensky told the Coalition of the Willing that Ukraine is prepared to “move forward” with the framework developed in Geneva.

He confirmed readiness to meet Trump personally to discuss remaining “sensitive points” in the negotiations.

The president insisted that European leaders must be involved in security decisions affecting Europe.

US officials were simultaneously holding talks with Russian representatives in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday.

Zelensky’s comments indicate cautious optimism about the new American approach while acknowledging significant challenges remain.
