JEDDAH: Manchester City clinched the FIFA Club World Cup for the first time in its history, triumphing over Brazil’s Fluminense FC 4-0 in the final of the 20th edition held on Friday evening at the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
The Champions League winner achieved this milestone in its inaugural participation in the Club World Cup, marking itself as the first English club to accomplish such a feat, Emirates News Agency (WAM) reported.
City asserted its dominance early in the final with the fastest goal ever scored in the tournament, courtesy of Julian Alvarez after just 42 seconds into the game. Nino, a Brazilian Fluminense defender, unintentionally contributed an own goal at the 27th minute, securing the second goal for City.
In the second half, Phil Foden extended the lead with the third goal for his team at the 72nd minute, while Alvarez notched the fourth goal, his second, at the 89th minute.
The Spaniard Pep Guardiola made history by becoming the first coach to claim four FIFA Club World Cup titles, surpassing the record of Italian Carlo Ancelotti, who has three titles to his name.-Bernama
