Malaysian athletes in gymnastics, karate, athletics and snooker secured seven gold medals, moving the contingent into the top five overall in Bangkok
THREE sports disciplines powered Malaysia’s medal haul on the third day of the 2025 SEA Games, delivering seven gold medals to keep the contingent in the top five of the overall standings.
Artistic gymnastics contributed two golds at Gymnasium 5, Thammasat University’s Rangsit Campus.
Muhammad Sharul Aimy Kamaru Hisam won the men’s vault with a stylish performance and a score of 13.833 points.
Yeap Kang Xian impressed on her debut, capturing gold in the women’s balance beam with 13.233 points after winning a vault bronze the previous day.

Defending champion C. Shahmalarani secured her third consecutive SEA Games gold in the women’s kumite under 50kg event at the Chaeng Watthana Government Complex.
K. Thevendran also triumphed in his debut, winning the men’s kumite under 55kg with a 4-0 victory over Vietnam’s Chu Van Duc.
At Suphachalasai Stadium, Nani Sahirah Maryata produced a surprise gold in the women’s shot put.
Her second throw of 16.36 metres broke her own national record of 15.39m.

Women’s hammer throw champion Grace Wong Xiu Mei dominated her event, breaking the Games record four times during the final.
Her best throw of 65.41m set new Games and national records.

Veteran snooker player Thor Chuan Leong completed Malaysia’s golden day by securing the contingent’s seventh gold and tenth overall.
The 37-year-old defeated Thailand’s Danjirakul Poramin five frames to two at the Thunder Dome Muang Thong Thani.
As of 10pm local time, Thailand led the medal tally with 66 gold, 43 silver and 28 bronze medals.
Vietnam followed with 24 gold, 17 silver and 43 bronze, while Indonesia had 20 gold, 28 silver and 24 bronze.
Malaysia climbed to sixth position with a total of 10 gold, 13 silver and 33 bronze medals. – Bernama
