National hockey coach Sarjit Singh says Speedy Tigers must cut simple errors after 3-4 loss to India in Sultan Azlan Shah Cup match in Ipoh.

IPOH: National men’s hockey coach Sarjit Singh said the Speedy Tigers must reduce simple mistakes to achieve positive results at the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup.

Sarjit identified defence as the main area requiring improvement ahead of tomorrow’s match against Belgium.

“In the match against India today, the players performed well and had a chance to win, but the final result did not favour us due to the mistakes committed,” he said.

He noted that midfield and attack positions performed well, with only the defensive line needing improvement for the next match.

Malaysia lost 3-4 to India earlier tonight at the Sultan Azlan Shah Hockey Stadium.

The defeat dashed Malaysia’s hopes of securing a second consecutive victory in the tournament.

Malaysia’s goals came from Faizal Shaari, Fitri Shaari, and Marhan Jalil, while India responded through Karthi Selvam, Sukhjeet Singh, Amit Rohidas, and Sanjay.

India’s head coach Craig Fulton said his team created good chances that should have resulted in more goals.

“But at least that’s positive from yesterday to today,” he said.

Fulton praised his team’s defensive line for being disciplined and thwarting many Malaysian opportunities.

“They tested everything, playing a man down, especially in the last seven minutes,” he said.

“I’m glad we got the results and based it on good defence.” – Bernama
