Malaysia Athletics expects to submit revised constitution to the Sports Commissioner’s Office within 10 days for World Athletics compliance.
MALAYSIA Athletics (MA) is expected to submit amendments to its constitution to the Sports Commissioner’s Office (PJS) within the next 10 days to bring it in line with World Athletics (WA) regulations.
MA deputy president Datuk Wan Hisham Wan Salleh said they are finalising the constitutional amendment documents following their approval at the annual general meeting (AGM) on Saturday (June 25).
“The PJS is waiting for us to submit the constitutional amendments for them to study and give feedback.
“We are supposed to submit them within 30 days of the AGM, but but I expect we can complete it in 10 days or two weeks because it is very straightforward,” he told reporters here today.
The amendments approved at the AGM stipulate that any individual suspended by WA or the Asian Athletics Association (AAA) will no longer be eligible to hold any position in MA.
Wan Hisham said that once the amendments are approved by the PJS, Datuk Karim Ibrahim will have to vacate his position as MA president.
Wan Hisham also expects the approval from PJS to be known within two months.
Earlier last month, Karim was reported to have taken leave from his duties as president until the recent AGM to allow MA’s constitution to be amended in accordance with WA regulations.
Prior to that, Karim’s status as president had been in the spotlight following the suspension imposed on him in 2018 by the world governing body, a decision that was later upheld by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
However, he remained eligible to contest and serve on the Asian Athletics Federation Executive Council for the 2019-2023 term despite the CAS decision.
Meanwhile, Wan Hisham said that once the president vacates the post, the deputy president will assume the role of acting president until the current term expires in 2029.
