Lee Zii Jia remains in contention for Malaysia’s 2026 Thomas Cup squad

BAM confirms Lee Zii Jia is still being considered for the 2026 Thomas Cup, pending his recovery from an ankle injury

KUALA LUMPUR: The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) is still considering professional men’s singles shuttler Lee Zii Jia for the 2026 Thomas Cup campaign.

BAM Performance Committee chairman Datuk Seri Lee Chong Wei confirmed plans to involve the 27-year-old Paris Olympics bronze medallist in the prestigious tournament.

“We will call him up to join in the Thomas Cup preparations,” said Chong Wei after a meeting with national coaches at Akademi Badminton Malaysia in Bukit Kiara.

“Zii Jia should not be sidelined.”

Chong Wei noted they have not received feedback on Zii Jia’s recovery from a recurring left ankle ligament injury.

“Hopefully, he can recover fully,” he added.

The former world number one admitted the national men’s singles lineup is still struggling for consistency.

He said he will continue monitoring their performance to see who can be roped into the Thomas Cup squad.

“There are still six months to go before the Thomas Cup Finals,” Chong Wei stated.

“So, we hope the coaches can get them ready by then.” – Bernama
