Malaysian mixed doubles pairs advance at India Open

Two Malaysian mixed doubles pairs, Jimmy-Pei Jing and Soon Huat-Shevon, win their first-round matches to progress at the 2026 India Open.

KUALA LUMPUR: Two Malaysian professional mixed doubles pairs have secured their spots in the second round of the 2026 India Open.

Jimmy Wong and Lai Pei Jing (pic) defeated Japan’s Yuta Watanabe and Maya Taguchi 21-10, 23-21 in a 36-minute match at the Indira Gandhi Sports Complex.

They will next face either China’s Feng Yan Zhe and Huang Dong Ping or Denmark’s Mads Vestergaard and Christine Busch.

Goh Soon Huat and Shevon Jemie Lai (pic) also progressed by beating Taiwan’s Wu Guan Xun and Lee Chia Hsin 21-17, 21-17.

Their second-round opponents will be either Taiwan’s Chen Cheng Kuan and Hsu Yin Hui or Thailand’s Ruttanapak Oupthong and Jhenicha Sudjaipraparat.

A third Malaysian pair, Hoo Pang Ron and Cheng Su Yin, were eliminated in a tight first-round contest.

They lost 21-17, 16-21, 20-22 to third-seeded Thai duo Dechapol Puavaranukroh and Supissara Paewsampran.
