Pearly-Thinaah power into Indonesia Masters quarter-finals

Malaysian shuttlers Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah, Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun and K. Letshanaa all advance to the Indonesia Masters quarter-finals with commanding victories.

MALAYSIA’S top women’s doubles pair Pearly Tan and M. Thinaah cruised into the quarter-finals of the Indonesia Masters.

They needed just 43 minutes to defeat Taiwan’s Lin Xiao Min-Wang Yu Qiao 21-13, 21-12 at Istora Senayan today.

The pair will next face either Japan’s Kaho Osawa-Mai Tanabe or South Korea’s Kim Yu Jung-Lee Yu Lim.

In men’s doubles, Man Wei Chong and Tee Kai Wun also advanced after a hard-fought 54-minute battle.

They overcame India’s Hariharan Amsakarunan and M.R. Arjun 21-17, 9-21, 21-16 to reach the last eight.

Their quarter-final opponents will be Indonesian home favourites and world number seven pair Sabar Karyaman Gutama and Moh Reza Pahlevi Isfahani.

There was further success for Malaysia in the women’s singles draw.

K. Letshanaa secured her quarter-final spot with a dominant 21-14, 21-14 victory over Canada’s sixth-seeded Michelle Li.

The news was not as good for other Malaysian contenders.

National men’s singles star Lee Zii Jia was eliminated by Thailand’s Panitchaphon Teeraratsakul.

Zii Jia lost 21-15, 17-21, 8-21 in his second-round match.

The mixed doubles pair of Hoo Pang Ron and Cheng Su Yi also exited the tournament.

They fell 13-21, 19-21 to China’s fifth-seeded duo Guo Xin Wa and Chen Fang Hui.
