Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scores 37 points as the NBA-best Oklahoma City Thunder improve to 17-1, avenging their only loss to Portland.

REIGNING NBA Most Valuable Player Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 37 points as the Oklahoma City Thunder avenged their only defeat of the season with a 122-95 victory over Portland.

The defending champions improved their league-best record to 17-1 while extending their winning streak to nine games.

Gilgeous-Alexander made 13-of-18 shots from the floor and converted all nine free throws while adding seven assists and five rebounds.

“He’s a killer and we know that,” teammate Ajay Mitchell said of Gilgeous-Alexander.

Oklahoma City became only the fifth NBA team in 30 years to start a season 17-1.

Mitchell contributed 20 points off the bench with perfect eight-of-eight shooting.

The Thunder improved to 7-0 at home with Isaiah Hartenstein grabbing 15 rebounds.

Elsewhere, the Los Angeles Lakers extended their win streak to four games with a 108-106 victory at Utah.

Luka Doncic led the Lakers with 33 points and 11 rebounds while LeBron James scored 17 points in his first road game after recovering from sciatica.

The Lakers improved to 12-4 despite Keyonte George’s 27-point effort for Utah.

Phoenix defeated San Antonio 111-102 behind Dillon Brooks’ 25 points and Devin Booker’s 24.

The Spurs played without injured star Victor Wembanyama and saw their three-game win streak end.

Cleveland’s Donovan Mitchell scored 37 points to power the Cavaliers past the Los Angeles Clippers 120-105.

Boston’s Jaylen Brown scored 35 points in a 138-129 win over Orlando while Atlanta edged Charlotte 113-110.

Toronto won its seventh straight game by beating Brooklyn 119-109 behind Scottie Barnes’ 17 points.

The Raptors have now won 11 of their last 12 games to sit second in the Eastern Conference.

Miami extended its win streak to four games with a 127-117 victory over Philadelphia as Norman Powell scored 32 points.

Kevin Durant will miss Houston’s next two games for personal reasons according to ESPN and The Athletic.

Denver’s Aaron Gordon will be sidelined four to six weeks with a hamstring strain. – AFP
