Malaysia’s track cycling trio broke a long-standing national record to win the men’s team sprint gold at the 2025 SEA Games in Bangkok.
THE national track cycling trio of Muhammad Fadhil Mohd Zonis, Mohamad Akmal Nazimi Jusena and Muhammad Ridwan Sahrom smashed the national record en route to winning the men’s team sprint gold at the 2025 SEA Games.
They clocked a time of one minute 0.520 seconds at the Hua Mark Velodrome today.
Their performance erased the previous national record of 1:02.077s set by Datuk Mohd Azizulhasni Awang, Josiah Ng and Muhammad Edrus Md Yunos at the 2014 Asian Games.
“We really gave our 100%. We held nothing back because we knew today was the last day for track cycling,” Muhammad Fadhil said.
He credited a month-long training camp in Chiang Mai and specific preparation since early this year for the victory.
Muhammad Fadhil noted the open track favoured the Thai silver medallists, who recorded 1:00.720s.
He said continuous training at the Cheras Velodrome prepared them to face the challenge.
“As a senior cyclist, I am proud of the junior riders,” he added.
The team sprint gold contributed to a successful final day of track cycling for Malaysia.
The national squad also won the men’s keirin gold through Muhammad Ridwan.
Nur Aisyah Zubir secured gold in the women’s scratch event.
The men’s team pursuit quartet of Azim Aliyas, Hafiq Jafri, Yusri Shaari and New Joe Lau also won gold.
Joe Lau added a silver medal in the men’s point race.
The final tally for the track cycling contingent was four gold and one silver medal.
