Arsenal extend Premier League lead as Man City suffer Villa defeat

The Sun Sport

Arsenal move four points clear at Premier League summit after Eze’s winner against Palace, while Manchester City lose at Aston Villa and Bournemouth climb to second.

ARSENAL extended their Premier League lead to four points with a 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace on Sunday.

Eberechi Eze scored the decisive goal against his former club to maintain the Gunners’ impressive start to the season.

Manchester City lost 1-0 at Aston Villa as Matty Cash’s first-half strike ended City’s nine-game unbeaten run.

Bournemouth climbed to second place after beating Nottingham Forest 2-0 at the Vitality Stadium.

Tottenham moved into third position with a convincing 3-0 victory at Everton’s new Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Arsenal’s winning goal came from Eze, who joined from Palace in a RM60 million deal during August.

The England international volleyed home after Palace failed to clear Declan Rice’s free-kick six minutes before half-time.

Manager Mikel Arteta praised Eze’s technique, calling it “unbelievable” and acknowledging his team “needed something special.”

Arsenal kept their 10th clean sheet in 13 games across all competitions this season.

The only concerns for Arteta were injuries to Rice and William Saliba, who both had to be substituted during the second half.

At Villa Park, Cash’s stunning 19th-minute strike from outside the box secured Villa’s fourth consecutive league victory.

Erling Haaland had a late goal ruled out for offside, ending his 12-game scoring streak in the process.

No Manchester City player other than Haaland has scored in the Premier League for a month.

Pep Guardiola expressed disappointment, saying his team “were not aggressive enough” during the match.

Tottenham’s victory featured two goals from captain Micky van de Ven and a late strike from Pape Mate Sarr.

Bournemouth’s win came through Marcus Tavernier’s direct corner and Eli Junior Kroupi’s fourth goal in six games.

Wolverhampton Wanderers remain bottom after losing 3-2 to Burnley in a thrilling encounter at Molineux.

Lyle Foster scored the winning goal in stoppage time to lift Burnley five points clear of the relegation zone.

The result leaves Wolves six points from safety after Zian Flemming’s double had put Burnley 2-0 ahead early on.

Arsenal now lead fifth-placed Manchester City by six points and have a seven-point advantage over Liverpool in seventh position. – AFP
