Barcelona midfielder Fermin Lopez out for two weeks with soleus muscle injury, missing key La Liga matches and potentially Champions League clash
BARCELONA MIDFILLER FERMIN LOPEZ has been ruled out for approximately two weeks with a calf injury.
The club confirmed on Thursday that the 22-year-old has sustained a small injury to the soleus muscle in his right leg.
Lopez will miss three crucial La Liga fixtures against Alaves, Atletico Madrid and Real Betis during his recovery period.
His participation in Barcelona’s Champions League home match against Eintracht Frankfurt on December 9 remains uncertain.
The Spanish midfielder had become a regular starter under manager Hansi Flick this season.
Lopez featured 46 times for Barcelona last season during their domestic treble-winning campaign.
He had recently returned from a late-September injury to impressive form.
The midfielder scored five goals and provided four assists across his last six matches.
Barcelona currently sit second in the La Liga table behind rivals Real Madrid.
The injury blow comes after Barcelona’s 3-0 Champions League defeat at Chelsea this week. – AFP
