Cong An Ha Noi FC target maximum points for Shopee Cup knockout push

Midfielder Nguyen Quang Hai says Cong An Ha Noi FC must stay focused and win their final group games to advance in the ASEAN Club Championship.

CONG An Ha Noi FC midfielder Nguyen Quang Hai says his team must secure maximum points from their remaining group matches to qualify for the Shopee Cup knockout rounds.

The Vietnamese side, last season’s runners-up, are fourth in Group A with four points from three games.

They face crucial fixtures against Selangor FC and group leaders Tampines Rovers FC.

“The team will review each match carefully, draw the necessary lessons, and focus on the upcoming fixtures, which are very important and decisive,” said the 28-year-old playmaker.

He stressed that the only path forward is for the entire team to stay fully focused and collect the maximum points possible.

Quang Hai has been a key player since joining the club in June 2023, making nine appearances and scoring once in their run to the 2024/25 final.

Cong An Ha Noi lost that final on penalties to Thailand’s Buriram United FC.

The current campaign has proven more challenging, with an opening loss to BG Pathum United FC followed by a narrow win and a 1-1 draw with Buriram.

“This year, with other teams preparing more thoroughly, we need to improve and further develop,” Quang Hai acknowledged.

He believes competing against the region’s strongest clubs provides invaluable experience for the team’s development.

The midfielder is determined not to let another championship opportunity slip away.

“If we are given another opportunity to compete for the championship, we will certainly not let it slip away,” he stated.

Quang Hai was named Shopee Star of the Match in the first leg of last season’s final.
