FAM appeals FIFA sanctions at Court of Arbitration for Sport

The Football Association of Malaysia has filed an appeal with CAS against FIFA’s sanctions over alleged document falsification for heritage players

KUALA LUMPUR: The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) has formally appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) against FIFA’s sanctions.

FAM acting president Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mahadi confirmed the submission of its Statement of Appeal.

CAS has given FAM’s legal team until December 18 to submit full written arguments.

“FAM reiterates its full commitment to undergoing this process professionally, transparently, and in full respect of all established legal procedures,” Mohd Yusoff said.

He added that FAM would share updates on subsequent developments.

FIFA confirmed on September 26 that FAM and seven heritage players were found guilty of violating Article 22 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code.

The violation related to alleged document falsification concerning player eligibility.

Investigations found FAM submitted documents believed falsified to confirm the eligibility of seven players.

This allowed the players to compete in a 2027 Asian Cup Qualifiers match on June 10.

Malaysia won that Group F match 4-0 against Vietnam.

Consequently, FIFA ordered FAM to pay a fine of CHF350,000, approximately RM1.8 million.

Each of the seven players was fined CHF2,000, about RM11,000, and suspended from football for 12 months.

The FIFA Appeal Committee rejected appeals by FAM and the players on November 3.

That decision upheld the original Disciplinary Committee’s ruling.

FAM is now taking the case to CAS to seek justice and defend the integrity of the player eligibility process. – Bernama
