FAM takes over NFDP technical role, NSC retains management duties

FAM now handles NFDP technical aspects like training and coaching, while NSC continues athlete management and support services.

THE Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) has officially taken over the technical role in the National Football Development Programme (NFDP).

The National Sports Council (NSC) stated the move aims to strengthen the national football talent development ecosystem in a more structured and integrated manner.

This takeover involves all technical aspects, aligning with FAM’s expertise as the national football governing body.

FAM’s main responsibilities now include athlete training, tournament participation, and coaching management at all NFDP levels.

The change follows a proposal from the Asian Football Confederation, which assessed the programme at the request of the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

Concurrently, NSC will continue to manage athlete support and administrative aspects.

Its responsibilities cover administration, facility and financial management, and competition management.

NSC will also handle athlete welfare, education, dormitory and nutrition management, medical services, and sports science.

This clear division of roles aims to ensure NFDP is implemented more effectively and professionally.

The structure aligns with international football development standards while ensuring the welfare of young athletes.

The programme is monitored by three committees to ensure transparent and effective governance.

The Steering Committee is chaired by Youth and Sports Minister Mohamed Taufiq Johari to set NFDP’s strategic direction.

The Working Committee, led by NSC director-general Jefri Ngadirin, coordinates policy implementation and programme operations.

NSC believes this more robust management structure can produce higher-quality players.

The goal is to develop athletes who are competitive on the international stage, strengthening the future of Malaysian football. – Bernama
