Fan group demands FIFA halt World Cup ticket sales over high prices

Football Supporters Europe calls for an immediate stop to 2026 World Cup ticket sales, citing costs nearly five times higher than the 2022 tournament.

PARIS: Football Supporters Europe has called on FIFA to immediately halt ticket sales for next year’s World Cup.

The fans’ group labelled the prices for the 2026 tournament in the United States, Canada and Mexico as “extortionate”.

It claims tickets will cost almost five times more than for the 2022 edition in Qatar.

“Football Supporters Europe is astonished by the extortionate ticket prices imposed by FIFA on the most dedicated supporters,” the umbrella lobby group said.

FSE stated that tickets allocated to national associations are reaching “astronomical” levels.

It estimates a fan following their team from the first match to the final would pay a minimum of $6,900.

The group demands FIFA engage in consultation and review prices until a respectful solution is found.

FSE also pointed to a 2018 bid document that promised tickets from $21.

“Where are these tickets now?” it asked.

It noted the promised cheapest full tournament package was supposed to cost $2,242. – AFP
