Former CJ to lead independent probe into heritage player sanctions

FAM appoints ex-CJ Tun Md Raus Sharif to head independent committee investigating FIFA sanctions on seven heritage players.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Football Association of Malaysia has appointed former Chief Justice Tun Md Raus Sharif to lead an independent investigation into documentation issues involving seven heritage players.

FAM confirmed no association personnel would be involved in the probe to ensure fairness, transparency and professionalism.

Tun Md Raus has also received authority to select committee members for the investigation.

“Based on his credibility and extensive experience, FAM hopes that Tun Md Raus, together with the committee members he will appoint, will be able to conduct a thorough investigation,” the association stated.

Last month, FIFA imposed 12-month suspensions and fines of CHF2,000 (RM10,560) each on seven heritage players for document falsification violations.

The sanctioned players include Gabriel Felipe Arrocha, Facundo Tomas Garces, Rodrigo Julian Holgado, Imanol Javier Machuca, Joao Vitor Brandao Figueiredo, Jon Irazabal Iraurgui and Hector Alejandro Hevel Serrano.

FIFA’s Disciplinary Committee found the players breached Article 22 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code regarding document falsification.

FAM itself was fined CHF350,000 (RM1.8 million) in the same case.

The outcome of FAM’s appeal against the fines and suspensions is expected on October 30. – Bernama
