Man Utd’s Sesko out for weeks with knee injury, says Amorim

Man Utd forward Benjamin Sesko will miss several weeks with a knee injury but has avoided serious damage, manager Ruben Amorim confirms.

LONDON: Manchester United forward Benjamin Sesko will be sidelined for several weeks with a knee injury.

Manager Ruben Amorim confirmed the 22-year-old sustained the problem during United’s 2-2 draw at Tottenham on November 8.

Sesko missed Slovenia’s recent World Cup qualifiers due to the injury.

Amorim initially expressed concern about the knee issue but now believes the striker has avoided a lengthy absence.

“He is going to stay out for a few weeks, I don’t know how long, but it is not that serious,” Amorim said at his pre-match press conference.

The United manager expects Sesko to return around the time several teammates depart for the Africa Cup of Nations.

Cameroon’s Bryan Mbeumo, Ivory Coast international Amad Diallo and Morocco’s Noussair Mazraoui will leave for the tournament beginning December 21 in Morocco.

Discussions are ongoing about their release dates from club duty.

“We are doing our job to try to maintain the players a little bit longer but it’s not just in our hands,” Amorim said.

United will also be without defender Harry Maguire against Everton after he picked up an injury in the Spurs match.

Midfielder Kobbie Mainoo could be available for Monday’s game against David Moyes’s side.

Lisandro Martinez is nearing a return after participating in Argentina’s camp during the international break.

Reflecting on his first year at United, Amorim acknowledged the club’s challenges but expressed optimism about progress.

“We suffered a lot last year, so we have to take that into account and play every game like it’s the last one or the first one,” he said.

United sit seventh in the Premier League after an unbeaten run of five games.

The club has drawn its past two matches against Nottingham Forest and Tottenham. – AFP
