Paris Saint-Germain sign 18-year-old midfielder Dro Fernandez from Barcelona, with the Catalan club’s president calling the situation “unpleasant”.
PARIS: Paris Saint-Germain have confirmed the signing of teenage talent Dro Fernandez from Barcelona. The 18-year-old Spanish midfielder has signed a contract until 2030.
PSG stated the move aligns with the club’s strategy focusing on youth and talent. The transfer fee was not officially disclosed.
Spanish media reported PSG paid €8.2 million, slightly above his €6 million release clause. This was described as a goodwill gesture.
Barcelona president Joan Laporta called the situation “unpleasant” and a surprise. He said a new deal had been agreed for when the player turned 18.
“Surprisingly, his representative told us he couldn’t follow through on what we’d agreed to,” Laporta told Catalunya Radio.
Dro joined Barcelona’s La Masia academy in 2022 and made eight first-team appearances. He made his debut under coach Hansi Flick in September 2025.
On Instagram, Dro called it one of the most difficult decisions of his life. He said he was saying goodbye to a club that had been his home.
Earlier in January, Flick expressed his disappointment at the player’s decision to leave. The German coach emphasised the need for total commitment.
“If you want to play for Barca, then (do it) 100 percent with your whole heart,” Flick said. “These colours, you have to live for them.”
