French footballer Lucas Hernandez faces a human trafficking and illegal employment probe after a Colombian family alleged exploitation and modern slavery
FRENCH footballer Lucas Hernandez is being investigated over allegations of human trafficking and illegal employment, prosecutors have confirmed.
The Paris Saint-Germain defender is accused by members of a Colombian family he employed of making them work long hours without holidays or proper legal documents.
Their lawyer, Lola Dubois, said the family suffered economic vulnerability and experienced a form of “modern slavery”. She claimed work contracts were drawn up a year after they started their roles.
The 29-year-old World Cup winner and his wife, Victoria Triay, said they had been manipulated and had their trust betrayed by the father, mother and their three children.
“These people shared our life with us with respect and dignity,” Hernandez and his wife said in a statement. They added that the matter is now being handled through the appropriate legal channels.
