A Sabah FC supporter wore Kadazandusun attire to the FA Cup final, turning heads and showcasing state pride amid a sea of football jerseys
A Sabah FC supporter stood out from the crowd at the FA Cup final by choosing traditional attire over a team jersey.
Amid a sea of red and blue at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil, Yap Ken Vun, 37, wore Kadazandusun dress to the match between Johor Darul Ta’zim and Sabah FC.
He said the decision was a planned statement of pride in Sabah’s cultural identity and heritage.
“I planned this early because I wanted to do something different,” Yap told Bernama.
“I want to wear traditional attire for the final to showcase Sabah’s culture at Bukit Jalil Stadium.”
He attended the match with 14 family members, turning their support into a family moment of unity.
Yap also expressed confidence that Sabah FC could spring a surprise against the defending champions.
JDT supporter Mohammed Haffizuddin Baharuddin, 33, said his support for the team at finals never wanes.
“We always make it a point to come and support the team in the final,” he said, noting five buses transported JDT fans.
A Bernama survey found the stadium atmosphere remained lively despite heavy rain from 5.30 pm.
