Liverpool manager Arne Slot insists his relationship with Mohamed Salah is not broken, despite dropping the forward for the Champions League trip.
MILAN: Liverpool manager Arne Slot has insisted his relationship with star forward Mohamed Salah has not broken down.
Slot made the comments after dropping Salah from the squad for Tuesday’s Champions League match away to Inter Milan.
The Egypt forward trained with the first team earlier on Tuesday but was not taken to Italy.
This follows Salah’s recent comments where he said he felt “thrown under the bus” by the club and no longer had a relationship with Slot.
Salah made those remarks after being left on the bench for a third consecutive game in a 3-3 draw with Leeds United.
“That’s not the way I feel but he has the right to feel how he feels things,” Slot said to supporters regarding a breakdown.
“I haven’t felt that at all,” the Liverpool coach added.
When asked if Salah had played his last game for the club, Slot replied, “I have no clue.”
“I cannot answer that question at this moment in time,” he added.
Slot also stated Salah had a right to his feelings but not to share them with the media.
“He has every right to feel what he feels, but he doesn’t have the right to share it with the media.”
Liverpool are struggling in ninth place in the Premier League amid a wider crisis of form.
The team has won just four of its last 15 matches in all competitions.
In the Champions League, Liverpool sit 13th with nine points after a recent 4-1 home defeat to PSV Eindhoven.
Salah is the club’s highest-paid player in history after signing a new contract in April.
He played a key role in Liverpool’s two Premier League titles and one Champions League triumph.
This season, however, Salah has scored just four goals in 13 Premier League appearances. – AFP
