Terengganu FC confirms Super League spot for next season

Terengganu FC officially secures Super League spot for next season amid ongoing restructuring efforts to clear debts.

KUALA NERUS: Questions regarding the future of Terengganu FC (TFC) have been answered after the team has been officially confirmed to compete in the Super League next season.

Terengganu State Football Association (PBSNT) Secretary-General Ahmad Shahrizal Yahaya said the matter was decided during a Special Meeting of the PBSNT Executive Committee that convened last Thursday.

He said that the decision was made following a thorough review of the findings from the TFC Direction Workshop, as well as several engagement sessions with the club’s management and key stakeholders of the state’s football scene.

“As a result of the discussions, PBSNT has in principle agreed that TFC will remain competing in the Malaysia Super League for the upcoming season.

“However, a restructuring process and new approaches must be implemented involving management, financial, technical, and operational aspects to build a team that is more stable, competitive, and sustainable for the long term,” he said in a media statement today.

Ahmad Shahrizal said that for next season, TFC will prioritise clearing cumulative debt liabilities that have persisted over several seasons.

He added that expenditure management for the current season will also be controlled as strictly as possible to strengthen the club’s sustainability in facing various upcoming challenges.

“PBSNT understands the high expectations that supporters have for the state’s beloved club. Therefore, all plans are being refined to focus on strengthening governance, organisational stability, continuing the local talent development agenda, and rebuilding the team’s strength in a more prudent manner.

“PBSNT is confident that with the support of all parties and the shared spirit of unity among all supporters, TFC will continue to rise and step forward stronger in the seasons to come,” he said.

On April 16, Bernama reported that TFC did not rule out the possibility of having to withdraw from the Super League and play in the A1 Semi-Pro League due to financial difficulties.

The squad, based at the Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin Stadium (SSMZA), finished the 2025/2026 Super League season in fifth place with 36 points.
