HAWANA sports carnival opens with bowling championship for media practitioners

The HAWANA Sports Carnival 2025 begins with a bowling championship, uniting over 130 media professionals from various organisations across Malaysia

THE National Journalists’ Day (HAWANA) Sports Carnival 2025 kicked off today with the HAWANA Bowling Championship.

This event continues a tradition of uniting media practitioners from various organisations across the country.

The bowling championship is the first sporting event organised this year, to be followed by football, netball and traditional games next week.

Bernama chief executive officer Datin Paduka Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin said the championship, now in its fourth edition, is not merely a competitive platform but also a means of strengthening ties among media practitioners.

A total of 32 teams involving 135 mainstream, digital and freelance media practitioners took part at Wangsa Bowl One Utama.

Participating media organisations included Bernama, RTM, IPPTAR, FINAS, the Malaysian Tamil Media Association, Astro, Harian Metro, IKIM FM, Sinar Harian, REV Media, TV3, NST, TV AlHijrah and China Press Berhad.

Metro Rangers emerged champions of the Media Team category after recording a total of 2,049 pinfalls.

In the Men’s Individual (High Series) category, Shahril Saari of Astro AWANI clinched the title with 568 pinfalls.

Sharifah Omar of Metro Rangers won the Women’s Individual (High Series) category with 493 pinfalls.

Bernama editor-in-chief Arul Rajoo Durar Raj emerged champion of the Men’s Individual (High Series) VIP category with 319 pinfalls.

Deputy editor-in-chief (Economic News Service) Azlina Aziz won the Women’s Individual (High Series) VIP category with 396 pinfalls.

The championship offered total cash prizes of more than RM7,000, including RM1,000 for the Media Team category champion.

Also present at the event were Bernama acting deputy editor-in-chief (News Service) Mohd Shukri Ishak, IPPTAR director Datuk Roslan Ariffin and Media Prima Bhd OAP NCA Division general manager Kamaruddin Mape. – Bernama
