The Malaysian men’s hockey squad dominated Myanmar 21-1 in their first 2025 SEA Games match, with Muhammad Azrai Aizad scoring seven goals.
THE national men’s hockey team began their 2025 SEA Games campaign with a resounding 21-1 victory over Myanmar in Group A today.
The match was held at the National Sports University in Chonburi.
Muhammad Azrai Aizad Abu Kamal was the standout performer, netting seven goals including two from penalty corners.
Syed Mohammad Syafiq Syed Cholan also shone brightly with four goals, one of which came from a penalty corner.
Norsyafiq Sumantri completed a hat-trick during the emphatic win.
Further goals came from Muhajir Abdu Rauf and Mohd Fitri Saari, who each scored twice.
Amanraj Singh, Alfarico Lance Liau Jr and Shello Silverius added one goal apiece to the tally.
Myanmar’s sole consolation was a penalty stroke goal scored by Oo Thein Htike.
National head coach Sarjit Singh stated the team’s clear objective after the match.
“We are here to win the tournament, so we shouldn’t have any problems moving the ball around and taking our chances,” he said in a video shared by the Malaysian Hockey Confederation.
Malaysia’s next match is against Indonesia tomorrow.
