MLBF aims to keep the same contractor for its portable training rink to ensure surface consistency ahead of the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
THE Malaysian Lawn Bowls Federation is seeking continuity for the contractor managing its portable training rink ahead of the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
MLBF president Datuk Awalan Abdul Aziz said the facility, acquired from Perbadanan Stadium Malaysia for last year’s World Cup, must be relocated from Stadium Juara in May.
He stressed that retaining the same contractor is crucial for surface quality and technical consistency before the Glasgow Games.
“This is because the tournament will use a portable rink with the same surface material, specifications and contractor,” he told Bernama.
The national squad will use the portable rink for training until Hari Raya before it is moved to a new, undecided location.
Athletes will then train on the regular rink in Bukit Kiara until the portable facility is operational again.
The team is also preparing for the Asian Lawn Bowls Championship in New Delhi this April.
That competition will be held on an outdoor carpeted rink, requiring adjusted training sessions to suit the surface.
Furthermore, the national team will depart early for Scotland to participate in a Four Nations Test Series.
This early departure is because the portable rink will not be ready for movement at that time.
“The National Sports Council has agreed for us to leave a week early,” Awalan said.
The squad will return to train on the portable rink after the test series, continuing until the Commonwealth Games.
The Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games will be held from July 23 to August 2.
