Malaysia’s men’s 5s hockey team thrashed the Philippines 18-0 in a dominant SEA Games group match, with four players scoring hat-tricks
THE national men’s five-a-side hockey squad delivered a powerful statement in their gold medal quest for the SEA Games 2025 by demolishing the Philippines 18-0 in their second Group A match.
The emphatic victory at the RTAF Hockey Stadium followed a 4-2 opening win against Indonesia earlier in the day.
Coach Wan Mohd Roslan Wan Abdul Rahman’s team exerted total dominance from the first whistle.
Four players scored hat-tricks in the commanding performance: Mohamad Akhimullah Anuar Esook, Muhammad Abid Sufian Mat Ruslee, Muhammad Muhibuddin Moharam and Syarman Mat Tee.
Shafiq Ikhmal Daniel Suzaini, Mohamad Kamarulzaman Kamaruddin, Luqman Nul Hakim Ahmad Shukran and Muhammad Arif Syafie Ishak added six more goals to complete the rout.
In a separate match, the national women’s squad also started their campaign positively.
They came from behind to defeat Indonesia 5-3 in their Group A encounter.
Wan Nur Syafiqah Syahirah Wan Nordin scored twice in the third and ninth minutes.
Goals from Dian Nursyakira Najwa Al-Wadqa Nazeri, Nor Adilah Abdul Malik and Hasya Syahida Saifuddin sealed the comeback victory. – Bernama
