KUALA LUMPUR: National veteran archer Mohd Juwaidi Mazuki ended Malaysia’s 10-year medal drought in the compound event at the Asian Archery Championships.
He secured the men’s individual bronze medal with a narrow 148-147 victory over South Korea’s Kim Jongho in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
The match took place at the National Stadium in the Bangladeshi capital.
Malaysia’s last compound medal at these championships came in 2015 when the women’s team won bronze in Bangkok.
South Korea’s Lee Eun Ho, aged 19, claimed the gold medal by defeating compatriot Choi Yonghee 146-143.
Mohd Juwaidi’s achievement marks Malaysia’s second medal at this year’s championships.
The women’s recurve team had previously secured bronze by defeating Uzbekistan 6-0 last Tuesday.
