Moutai Singapore Open: Lee, Wang and Piot neck and neck in chase for title

It was a tight contest throughout the third round of the Moutai Singapore Open, with Korea’s Soomin Lee holding on to a narrow lead over compatriot Jeunghun Wang and American James Piot at Singapore Island Country Club.

Lee, who began the day two shots ahead, carded a bogey-free 69 to reach 15-under, one clear of Japan’s Yosuke Asaji (65) and Korean Bio Kim (67).

Lee, runner-up on this course at the 2011 Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship, birdied the final hole to stay in front as he chases his maiden Asian Tour and International Series title.

Wang and Piot both shot 67s to share second. Wang, a three-time DP World Tour winner, impressed with six birdies despite windy afternoon conditions, while Piot, the 2021 US Amateur champion, stayed bogey free with a strong start.

Both will look to end their win droughts when they tee off alongside Lee in the final group on Sunday.

Asaji, who tied for second in the International Series Philippines recently, produced the day’s best round and sits one back.

Thailand’s Jazz Janewattananond, Australian Kevin Yuan and South African Ian Snyman are another stroke behind, while Filipino Miguel Tabuena (70) remains in the mix at 10-under, aiming to close the gap in the Asian Tour and International Series standings.
