Malaysia’s Natasha Mohamed Roslan falls short in the women’s singles bowling final, losing to Singapore’s Charmaine Chang Yu Qian at the 2025 SEA Games.
BANGKOK: Former world champion Natasha Mohamed Roslan’s quest for a SEA Games women’s singles bowling gold medal continues after a defeat here today.
The International Bowling Federation World Cup 2025 winner lost 191-234 to Singapore’s Charmaine Chang Yu Qian in the final at Blu-O Rhythm & Bowl, Major Cineplex Ratchayothin.
Natasha highlighted the unpredictable nature of the event’s one-game knockout format from the quarter-finals onward.
“Performance wise Alhamdulillah on good track,” she told reporters after the medal ceremony.
“Even though I was only a step away from the gold, the format of one game only in this SEA Games makes it anybody’s game and that one game is very important.”
She expressed frustration at missing the top prize, uncertain if she will compete in future editions.
“I wanted to win the gold medal actually but fate decided I get only a silver,” Natasha said.
“It’s frustrating because I’m not sure if I can play in the SEA Games after this.”
The silver medallist had advanced by defeating Indonesia’s Sharon Adelina Limansantoso 214-207 in the semi-final.
She earlier beat another Indonesian, Alisha Nabila Larasati, 182-176 in the quarter-final.
Singapore’s Colleen Pee, who lost to compatriot Charmaine 244-234 in the other semi-final, shared the bronze medal with Sharon.
National bowler Adania Mohd Redzwan was eliminated in the last eight, losing to Sharon 183-212.
Malaysia’s first bowling medal at these Games was a bronze from Muhammad Syazirol Shamsudin in the men’s singles.
Natasha now aims to redeem herself in the women’s doubles event with Sin Li Jane and the team-of-four competition.
The 2025 SEA Games is being held from December 9 to 20 across Bangkok and Chonburi provinces. – Bernama
