Screamfest 4: Sihir brings Malaysian folklore to life in Ipoh

Sunway Lost World of Tambun launches Screamfest 4: Sihir, celebrating Malaysian myths with 7 haunted houses.

SUNWAY Lost World of Tambun is transforming Malaysian folklore into a thrilling Halloween experience with the return of Screamfest 4: Sihir, a homegrown horror event that celebrates the nation’s supernatural legends and cultural heritage.

A Uniquely Malaysian Halloween
Unlike conventional Halloween events that rely on Western horror tropes, Screamfest 4: Sihir draws exclusively from Malaysia’s rich tapestry of myths, ancient rituals, and kampung ghost stories.
The event’s theme, “Sihir” (black magic), explores centuries-old mystical beliefs and supernatural traditions that have shaped Malaysian culture for generations.
“Screamfest is more than a Halloween event. It is a platform for us to celebrate our culture, our stories and our people,” said Brian Francis, Assistant General Manager of Sunway Lost World of Tambun.
“What makes it special is that everything, from concept to execution, is fully created by our own Sunway Theme Parks team.”

Seven Haunted Experiences Rooted in Local Legends
Guests will navigate through seven haunted attractions across the park, each inspired by traditional Malaysian folklore:
• Misteri Gua Langsuir (new) – A cave mystery featuring the legendary vampiric spirit
• Lembah Makhluk Hijau (new) – Valley of the Green Creature
• Lorong Saka – An alley haunted by ancestral guardian spirits
• Jamban Jampi – A cursed bathroom steeped in dark magic
• Tren Neraka – The Hell Train
Each attraction features immersive set design, atmospheric lighting, carefully crafted soundscapes, and live performers who bring Malaysia’s supernatural stories to life with authentic cultural context.

Beyond the Scares
The event offers more than haunted houses. Thrill-seekers can enjoy adrenaline-pumping rides including Stormrider, Dragon Flights, Giddy Galleon, Perak Parade, and Swan Lake. Four live show stages and strategically placed scare zones throughout the park maintain suspense and energy throughout the evening.

Preserving Heritage Through Modern Storytelling
Screamfest represents a innovative approach to cultural preservation, transforming intangible heritage into engaging, experiential entertainment.
By reimagining traditional legends through modern storytelling techniques, Sunway Lost World of Tambun creates accessibility to Malaysian folklore for both local and international visitors.
This cultural authenticity distinguishes Screamfest as a unique offering in the regional entertainment landscape, providing an experience that educates while it entertains.
