BANGKOK: Bangkok commuters can expect a significant reduction in electric train fares by September 2025.
Transport Minister Suriya Juangroongruangkit confirmed a nationwide 20 baht (RM2.60) cap, fulfilling a campaign promise by the ruling Pheu Thai Party.
This policy aims to ease the financial burden on Thais and boost transportation infrastructure development.

Additionally, the current maximum fare can reach a staggering 192 baht (RM25) per ride.
The plan further involves integrating various lines into the scheme and establishing a fund to compensate operators for potential revenue losses, according to The Star.
Furthermore, a joint-ticket bill is being drafted to allow seamless travel across the public transport network with a single card.
Suriya emphasised his commitment, stating, “Those who claimed it could not be done would see all train fares capped at 20 baht.”
This initiative is expected to be approved by the Cabinet soon.
