JAKARTA: Indonesian President Joko Widodo (pix) will be travelling to Dubai on Thursday to lead his delegation at the World Climate Action Summit, in conjunction with the United Nations Climate Change Conference, COP28.
The president in a statement emphasised on the need to strengthen commitments, particularly from developed nations, for climate financing, with a dedicated focus on achieving the net-zero emission target.
During the summit, he plans to share Indonesia’s experiences, highlighting the importance of global cooperation for climate funding and the necessity for inclusive transitions in the sustainable development of developing countries.
“Global expectations for COP28 are high, anticipating decisive international efforts to mitigate the rise in global temperatures,” he noted.
He is scheduled to participate in the Leaders’ event, addressing the transformation of food systems in the face of climate change, and attend the Group of 77 (G77) and China Summit.
The Group of 77 at the United Nations represents a coalition of 135 developing countries, aiming to champion collective economic interests and strengthen joint negotiating capacity. –Bernama
