Over 22,500 Chinese citizens prosecuted for financial crimes in 2023

BEIJING: The Chinese judicial authorities have brought to justice 22,529 people in the first 11 months of 2023 for committing financial crimes, the Chinese Supreme People’s Procuratorate said on Thursday, reported Sputnik.

Judicial authorities across China ordered the detention of 11,060 suspects for fraud and financial mismanagement from January to November, the statement read. A total of 15,590 people faced charges of illegal deposit withdrawals and fundraising fraud, which is 5.6 per cent less compared with the same period last year. Another 316 were accused of crimes related to securities, a 11.7 per cent increase year-on-year.

Moreover, 430 people were held to account for crimes involving direct investment funds, which is 36.7 per cent less than in the first 11 months of 2022, the prosecutors said, adding that 2,106 people were charged with fraud connected to financial instruments and loans, and another 2,301 with money laundering.–Bernama-Sputnik
