Hundreds gathered at a tahlil ceremony in Kinabatangan to remember the late Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin and his development legacy.
KINABATANGAN: A tahlil and Yasin recitation ceremony was held at the Kinabatangan District Mosque in honour of the late Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin.
Hundreds of local residents attended the sombre event alongside the late leader’s family and community leaders.
His son, Mohd Kurniawan Naim, was among the family members present at the ceremony.
A resident, Abdul Manan Jumat, said Bung Moktar’s passing deeply impacted both his family and the wider community.
He stated the leader’s contributions were difficult to fully express in words.
“What we enjoy today, including this well-equipped mosque, is the result of his contributions,” Abdul Manan said.
Another resident, Muhammad Rahmad Ahmad, pointed to the clear development in Kinabatangan since 1999 as Bung Moktar’s legacy.
He noted stark improvements in basic amenities, education and public infrastructure over the years.
Sabah BN chairman Datuk Jafry Ariffin said the large turnout reflected public appreciation for the late leader’s work.
He highlighted significant changes like new schools, a bank, a hospital and a fire station in the area.
Jafry expressed hope that this development legacy would be continued by future leadership.
Bung Moktar passed away at a private hospital in Kota Kinabalu on December 5 last year.
His death triggered by-elections for the Kinabatangan parliamentary and Lamag state seats.
The Kinabatangan by-election on January 24 features a three-cornered fight.
Mohd Kurniawan Naim is representing Barisan Nasional in the contest.
The Lamag state by-election will be a straight fight between BN and Warisan candidates.
