Former insurance agent fined RM14,000 for bank loan fraud

A former insurance agent was fined RM14,000 for impersonating an IRB officer and submitting false documents to fraudulently obtain a RM150,000 bank loan.

KUALA LUMPUR: A former insurance agent was fined RM14,000 by the Sessions Court after pleading guilty to defrauding a bank eight years ago.

Ahmad Nadzri Ab Razak, 39, was convicted on two charges of fraud to secure a RM150,000 loan.

Judge Norma Ismail ordered that he serve eight months in prison if he fails to pay the fine, which the accused subsequently paid.

The first charge involved defrauding a bank to obtain a special loan offered exclusively to Inland Revenue Board (IRB) employees.

The second charge was for using false documents to deceive the bank.

These documents included fabricated pay slips, bank statements, EPF statements, tax documents, an employer verification letter, and IRB employee passes.

The offences occurred at a bank in Wangsa Maju between September 1 and October 31, 2018.

They fall under Section 417 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum penalty of five years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both.

A bank officer filed a police report in June 2020 after an IRB employee received a bank letter addressed to a non-employee.

The bank’s investigation revealed Ahmad Nadzri, who is not an IRB employee, had fraudulently obtained the RM150,000 loan.

He was arrested in November 2023.

Police investigations found the accused, a blacklisted individual, initially sought a RM30,000 loan.

He was introduced by a neighbour to a man to handle the loan application.

Ahmad Nadzri provided his information to this individual, who then appointed another person to modify the documents before meeting a bank officer.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Raihanah Abd Razak prosecuted the case.

The accused was represented by lawyer Subash Ramasamy. – Bernama
