World champion tower runner leads Merdeka 118 spire climb for “National Take the Stairs Day”

World Champion Tower Runner, Soh Wai Ching, lead a climb up the Menara Merdeka 118 spire.

In conjunction with National Take the Stairs Day on 14th January 2026, PNB Merdeka Ventures Sdn. Berhad (PNBMV) marked the occasion by welcoming World Champion Tower Runner, Soh Wai Ching, to lead a climb up the Menara Merdeka 118 spire.

Menara Merdeka 118 rises to 678.9 meters in height, with the spire itself measuring 160 meters. The climb brought together 20 participants, including PNBMV Chief Executive Officer, Dato’ Ir. Ts. Izwan Ibrahim, heads of department and other key stakeholders within the Merdeka 118 precinct. 

Dato’ Izwan Ibrahim said, “At Merdeka 118, we are reminded that progress is built step by step. Today’s climb with Malaysia’s world champion, Soh Wai Ching, reflects the mindset we bring to everything we do. 

“It is about discipline, resilience, and a shared commitment to go further together. We are also looking forward to welcoming visitors to The View at 118, which is set to be the highest observation deck in Southeast Asia.”

Set to open in Q3 2026, The View at 118 will offer breathtaking 360° views of Kuala Lumpur and signature experiences for thrill seekers, including Edge Walk and Spire Climb, positioning Malaysia as an exciting global destination for tourists.
